This section aims to highlight some of the many different ways people of North West Tasmania are using crafting knowledge & knowhow to enrich the lives of others at the same time as helping to keep even more stuff from being buried in landfill or maybe just being creatively engaged in the now with other like minded souls....
Paper on Skin™, the international wearable paper art competition, is primarily hosted at the paranaple arts centre, Devonport, TAS. Additional associated events, workshops, and artist showcases are held at Hive Tasmania (Ulverstone), and The Cove Tasmania (Devonport).
The exhibition is a biennial event that pays homage to the papermaking heritage of Tasmania's North-West coast. It showcases catwalk-ready garments crafted from at least 80% paper, featuring gala events, theatrical performances, and immersive workshops. There are many ecological/ environmentally themed works. the finalists have been confirmed and announced. It is a very strong collection, with a lot of diversity, and incredibly original pieces...
Paper Stars Workshop
What: A hands-on craft session teaching simple paper-folding techniques to create decorative stars.
When: Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
Where: Smithton Library, 134-140 Nelson Street, Smithton.
Cost/Details: Free
Handmade Papermaking Tours: Step behind the scenes at Creative Paper Tasmania in Wynyard to see how recycled cotton fibres and natural materials turn into sustainable paper. You can join an interactive guided tour, roll up your sleeves to dip into the vat, and even contribute a sheet to ongoing community papier-mâché art projects.

All in is an open community exhibition celebrating the creative work of people from across the North West Coast. Residents of all ages and abilities are invited to share what they make and what they love.
Whether you're a professional artist or a weekend hobbyist, All in is an opportunity to connect with your community and celebrate creativity, self-expression, and belonging.
Held annually, the exhibition showcases a diverse range of works, including painting, drawing, photography, textiles, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and digital art.

Be inspired as local creatives showcase their incredible refashioned garments on the runway — each piece transformed from pre-loved clothing into something new, bold, and beautiful. These are the finalists of the ReDressed 2026 Competition, with winners announced live on the night.

What is The ReDressed Competition about?
ReDressed is about showing how existing clothes can be redesigned and remade into 'new' ones – extending the life of garments and keeping them in use for longer – as part of a competition and refashion show.
Contestants have been asked to choose an existing garment(s) and upcycle it (or them) to be a ‘new’ wearable garment/outfit.The garments have been judged by a panel of expert judges in various categories with the finalists selected for the REDRESSED 2026: ReFashion Show.
Prizes are awarded across 4 categories:
1. Circular design and sustainability
2. Creativity and innovation
3. Skills and craftsmanship
4. Wearability
A fifth category Ability to be Replicated, is for tertiary design students and professional contestants.
Choir in the Dial Range Project - Update!
A project is brewing to bring music to the Dial Range, and then to share that broadly. This is ultimately to try protect the Dial and also connect people more with it! Imagine dozens (if not more) musicians and singers in the forest, singing and playing music for the Dial...............
This Project is being developed by myself, Joy, and the Lutruwita Art Orchestra.
We are holding a bit of a "virtual town hall meeting" to let whoever is interested know about what we're doing, and just generally chat. We'd also love to chat about how this can fit in to existing efforts, and also if there are people keen to be involved.
stARTs North West
Dedicated to elevating Burnie’s profile as a vibrant arts hub, stARTs North West brings together local arts organisations, advocates for arts development, and leads impactful community projects that celebrate creativity and connection.
A highlight of their work is the biennial Paper on Skin competition, an acclaimed event that showcases innovative designs and celebrates paper as a unique medium for artistic expression. This competition provides a platform for artists to push creative boundaries and explore the intersection of material, design, and storytelling.

What to Expect: A casual meet-up to work on projects, share skills, and socialise. All items knitted or crocheted are donated to charities, shelters, and outreach programs
Boomerang Bags works to increase awareness about plastic pollution and foster sustainable behaviour at a grass-roots level through creating conscious, connected communities. Our volunteers collect and upcycle unwanted material, diverting thousands of kilograms of waste from landfill, and create a platform where communities can connect, socialise, learn new skills and contribute positively to the local community, building social capital and developing environment stewardship.

Ulverstone Museum – Feature Exhibition
Over the next two years this evolving exhibition will grow and change, sharing stories of industry and creation — from the minerals extracted, to what grows in and is returned to the earth here on Tasmania’s Central Coast. Each season, new stories will be introduced, making the exhibition a place to return to again and again.
Devonport Regional Gallery -free workshops!
Public Programs & Creative Learning
The Devonport Regional Gallery runs a range of hands-on creative programs for all ages and backgrounds from Toddler pop-ups to outreach workshops for various organisations within the community. Regular after-school workshops run each term including Create & Make for Kinder to Year 6 students on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Workshops are facilitated by the Creative Learning and Public Programs Officer.
