Looking to learn a new skill and/or share some of your own?

This section aims to highlight some of the many different ways people of North West Tasmania are using crafting knowledge & know how to enrich the lives of others at the same time as helping to keep even more stuff from being buried in landfill or maybe just being creatively engaged in the now with other like minded souls...whether it is visual arts, music, literature, film...there is an explosion of creativity in the North West

An invitation from Rees Campbell: I'm having a small book launch of my latest book, Islands of the Island State, and conversation with Chris Mead at Hive Ulverstone, on Sunday 11th October from 1:30. We're in the gallery, which has a wonderful exhibition on. I'll have my books there for sale and will also have a small tasting of some of the "shipwrecked" dishes from the book.

I'd love to see you there. The flyer says to ring to book - but that's not strictly necessary - it's just so they know how many seats to put out.

And hoping to pique your interest - Ulverstone's Goat Island is  one of the 40 featured. A few reviews below:

  • For anyone fascinated by wild landscapes, remote communities, wild food and our enduring connection with the sea, Rees Campbell's book 'Islands of the Island State' is a standout read. I'm reading mine an island at a time.

  • thank you for the incredible book.  I have only dipped into it briefly but look forward to properly absorbing it.  I appreciate the enormous amount of work that you have put into every detail.  Fascinating!

  • Congratulations on a superb, informative and entertaining read! I was so enthralled by it, I'd like to give one to a friend

  •  Interesting to read about the geology of Goat Island. I've  been there but didn't really understand what I was looking at!

Calling all sewers! Helen would love to hear from you. Our branch is active creating things for our Twilight Market and for community projects

Boomerang Bags is a not-for-profit organisation tackling plastic bag pollution at its source. We engage communities in the development of an innovative alternative to single use plastic bags – community made, reusable bags from preloved, recycled or reclaimed materials.

Boomerang Bags works to increase awareness about plastic pollution and foster sustainable behaviour at a grass-roots level through creating conscious, connected communities. Our volunteers collect and upcycle unwanted material, diverting thousands of kilograms of waste from landfill, and create a platform where communities can connect, socialise, learn new skills and contribute positively to the local community, building social capital and developing environment stewardship.
