This section aims to highlight some of the many different ways people of North West Tasmania are using crafting knowledge & knowhow to enrich the lives of others at the same time as helping to keep even more stuff from being buried in landfill or maybe just being creatively engaged in the now with other like minded souls....
stARTs North West
Dedicated to elevating Burnie’s profile as a vibrant arts hub, stARTs North West brings together local arts organisations, advocates for arts development, and leads impactful community projects that celebrate creativity and connection.
A highlight of their work is the biennial Paper on Skin competition, an acclaimed event that showcases innovative designs and celebrates paper as a unique medium for artistic expression. This competition provides a platform for artists to push creative boundaries and explore the intersection of material, design, and storytelling.
Succulent Garden Workshop: Held on Sunday, 2 August 2026, at the Lower Barrington Community Hall (supported by Kentish Council), featuring free hands-on planting and craft using natural elements
Location: Burnie Library — 30 Alexander Street, Burnie, TAS 7320
Time: Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Cost: Free
What to Expect: A casual meet-up to work on projects, share skills, and socialise. All items knitted or crocheted are donated to charities, shelters, and outreach programs
Boomerang Bags works to increase awareness about plastic pollution and foster sustainable behaviour at a grass-roots level through creating conscious, connected communities. Our volunteers collect and upcycle unwanted material, diverting thousands of kilograms of waste from landfill, and create a platform where communities can connect, socialise, learn new skills and contribute positively to the local community, building social capital and developing environment stewardship.
Homemaker Swap NW TAS Continues to Grow!
How do we ever choose from such a wonderful variety? Our talented community never ceases to amaze me. We had everything from glass covers, natural sprays for aches and pains, candles, herbs and spices, delicious cakes, and beautifully knitted items, plus so much more.

Ulverstone Museum – Feature Exhibition
Over the next two years this evolving exhibition will grow and change, sharing stories of industry and creation — from the minerals extracted, to what grows in and is returned to the earth here on Tasmania’s Central Coast. Each season, new stories will be introduced, making the exhibition a place to return to again and again.

Devonport Regional Gallery -free workshops!
Public Programs & Creative Learning
The Devonport Regional Gallery runs a range of hands-on creative programs for all ages and backgrounds from Toddler pop-ups to outreach workshops for various organisations within the community. Regular after-school workshops run each term including Create & Make for Kinder to Year 6 students on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Workshops are facilitated by the Creative Learning and Public Programs Officer.
