Looking to learn a new skill and/or share some of your own?
This section aims to highlight some of the many different ways people of North West Tasmania are using crafting knowledge & knowhow to enrich the lives of others at the same time as helping to keep even more stuff from being buried in landfill or maybe just being creatively engaged in the now with other like minded souls....

What to Expect: A casual meet-up to work on projects, share skills, and socialise. All items knitted or crocheted are donated to charities, shelters, and outreach programs
Boomerang Bags works to increase awareness about plastic pollution and foster sustainable behaviour at a grass-roots level through creating conscious, connected communities. Our volunteers collect and upcycle unwanted material, diverting thousands of kilograms of waste from landfill, and create a platform where communities can connect, socialise, learn new skills and contribute positively to the local community, building social capital and developing environment stewardship.
Homemaker Swap NW TAS Continues to Grow!
What an incredible month for our Homemaker Swap NW TAS! We welcomed 42 swappers, bringing along an amazing 210 handmade, homegrown, baked, and crafted items to share.
How do we ever choose from such a wonderful variety? Our talented community never ceases to amaze me. We had everything from glass covers, natural sprays for aches and pains, candles, herbs and spices, delicious cakes, and beautifully knitted items, plus so much more.4th July Swap @ Emu Valley Rhododendron Gardens… 12-2pm food (toasties & soup) & drinks available

Clay on Country: Hand-building Ceramic WorkshopSaturday 18 July 2026, 10.00am Join ceramic artist Bron Field for a hand-building clay workshop exploring texture, landscape, and material connection in response to the exhibition Clay on Country. Using pinch and coil techniques, participants will create small sculptural or functional ceramic pieces inspired by natural forms, Country, and personal memory. Through carving, imprinting, and mark-making with found and handmade tools, the workshop encourages intuitive making and creative experimentation with surface and form. Suitable for beginners through to experienced makers, the workshop offers a relaxed and supportive space to explore clay as a tactile and expressive material. Bron Field is a mixed media artist based in Mparntwe / Alice Springs, specialising in ceramics, community arts practice, and environmental arts. Bron is currently the Acting Manager at Hermannsburg Potters and was formerly Director of Central Craft, where she played an instrumental role in bringing the 16th Australian Ceramics Triennale to Mparntwe / Alice Springs, including the development of the landmark “Clay on Country” program. Her practice is grounded in collaboration, cultural exchange, and creating accessible creative opportunities within remote and regional communities. Since moving to Central Australia in 2010, Bron has developed an interdisciplinary practice shaped by Country, ecology, and collective making. Her work seeks to amplify the creative voices, lived experiences, and cultural knowledge of the artists and communities she collaborates with. Some changes for July -
* There will not be a Saturday sewing session this month as we don't have enough volunteer mentors and our teacher is away jet-setting (well deserved! )
* There will not be a zumba session for Saturday 4 July as we don't have a teacher to cover Imogen for this day (while she is away for two weeks.) Dance Fitness on Thursdays will be in the afternoon at the Railway Institute for the two weeks - 2 July and 9 July - 1pm to 1.45pm. We are very grateful to Chris Crossman from Dance Fit: Move in Colour, who will be covering Imogen's zumba classes while she is away.
* There will not be a wet felting workshop for July while our teacher Alison prepares for an exhibition at the Wonders of Wynyard for August
* Several community members have requested tai chi sessions outside of work/study hours, so we have added a tai chi evening session - Tuesdays 5.30pm to 6.30pm - starting 21 July.
* The promised kimchi workshop will now happen in August as the kitchen upgrades and remodel at the Wynyard showgrounds will be well and truly completed by then. They have done a great job, and it is looking spick and span! (we can't wait to start the cooking classes back up again!)
* The mosaic garden paver/framed house number is back after a month off so that Christianne could spend time with family
* We have a new addition to the calendar - card making with Vicki Collins. We are excited!
