About Us
The North West Environment Centre is a dynamic and active community-based organisation whose members work toward creating a better North West Tasmania and a better world for everyone. The NWEC vision is 'to inspire a new perspective on our relationship with the environment and each other so that we may all act to create a socially harmonious and ecologically sustainable future'
Projects
We are involved with a variety of projects across the North West Coast. From the local community garden, to coastal rehabilitation work to bringing the community together for a festival of Sustainable living.

Penguin Community Garden
OPEN Wednesdays mornings 10am-12pm. Saturdays 4.30pm until dusk (summertime ONLY) Come and join us to see the Penguin Organic Community Garden spring to life. Enthusiastic volunteers tend their seasonal growing tasks amongst a variety of plots, raised beds, hot houses and orchards.
Workshops
Join us for one of our many workshops promoting a sustainable future. A variety of topics have been on offer from mushrooms to millipedes, poly tunnels to preserving . Check out our socials for upcoming events.
Birds on Farms Book
This Glove-box guide to birds and habitat restoration and management in NW Tasmania. This was sponsored by the Australian Government Enviro fund.
Books are available for purchase at a cost of $10. extra charge for postage.

North West Ecofest
NW Ecofest is an annual sustainability festival featuring products and information that encourage us to reduce our ecological footprint.
Community Bus
Our 12-seater bus was purchased under the Cars for Communities scheme and provides low-cost transport to not-for-profit community groups across the region.
Latest Project
NW ecofest’ is a two-day sustainability festival that inspires individuals who are interested in working together to build a more resilient and connected future. Featuring workshops, stallholders, food and music. NW ecofest is a vibrant festival attracting attendees from across the state at all stages of their journey to a more planet friendly lifestyle. see more
